KEEPERS

We have learned
to make love last,

to slip and slide it
through tender hands

like time that slowly fingers
the face of a clock,

dripping moments
that cleave like butter
jealous to softened lips
before following chin’s
curve down paths
of least resistance.

Dusk is the dark
of your earth rising up
to meet my lying down;

dawn the flooding
of deep pools of shade
with my awakening
globe of heat.

Sifted breaths interleave
the sheets of us,
droplets of self expanding

into cells of golden honeycomb
stored in hives of time and place.

Sensual...and yet...it is deeper than that. To me, it speaks of a love that is tried and true...one that grows deeper with time and trials of life...growing, ever expanding, and all the while storing up golden memories of times and places...that when taken out, and tasted again, bring a sweetness to the soul.

How wonderfully the final stanza confirms the first and how very sweet each drop of imagery, sensation, exclamation, and blissful testimony flowing flawlessy toward it. Thank you for this taste of poetic holiday honey every bit as sweet as wine.

Kate - love the sensual imagery and how its all present tense except for the opening stanza and the wonderful ending lines:

Sifted breaths interleave
the sheets of us,
moments of self expanding

into cells of golden honeycomb
stored in hives of time and place.

The image of the "cells of golden honeycomb/ stored in hives of time and place." perfectly express the transcendence of the moment. - David

Slow and tender, sensuous and bright,
I love these lines.
And I like all the layers in this poem,
all the aspects that the reader can imagine
as pleasurable and everlasting
between a man a woman.
Oh yes! ;)

In this beautiful and lovely description, you present the essence of love between a man and a woman, but not alone as sexual mates, but as soul partners who love learning how it should be when together.
Your poetic volumes are, indeed, unbelievable. - Bill
