[The entire sequence of 114 coplas: “This Bad Guy World”, dedicated to Jorge MANRIQUE, 1440?-1479. I give here in translation his third “copla à pied quebrado” in Arte Menor metre:
“Coplas a la muerte de su padre” (Coplas on the death of his father) -
Our lives are like rivers
that empty into the sea
……..where we expire:
There the lordly peers
come to their final spree
……..and no more transpire;
There gushing rivers swell
and others less imposing
……..and the rivulets
All arrive at the same sea level
those who toil with hands living

Good guys up the sooty chimney

Senor Don Ron! Bonjour! Many thanks for the comment. Might I, respectfully, ask if the CRITIC of "haute visée" is attributing my COPLA UNO (one of 115 I have already posted elswhere)to the one-poem poet Jorge Manrique (the latter only wrote 40 coplas and the translation is of the third copla) to the Master of the copla genre??? If that is the case, then it's an unforgiveable "mistake", a "misreading" not worthy of your high calibre critiqueing standards, nay, even tantamount to a "sin", why a major unpardonable SIN, one of biblical proportions considering that Manrique, himself, swore by the BOOK.

While written in the 15th century Jorge Manrique's poems have stood the test of time and bear fruit today as they did back then. Thanks for translating.
