As for swearing on the "sacred" scriptures, they do that sort of a "thing" all over the place, especially when re-election is on the plate. Glad you got out of that mess ! Besides, all colonial powers also wait to offer "apologies" for transgressing other subjugated peoples just when they want to get re-elected. Oh, for the odour of goodness !
My hometown and the surrounding countryside was settled by German immigrants who got the best land and, later, by Polish immigrants who got the lesser of the land, but produced more children because of their Roman Catholic belief that having children was one way to spread the religion.
Therefore, my hometown was about two thirds Roman Catholic, with more churches, church schools and even a Catholic high school. As far as indoctrination goes, the Roman Catholics suffered far more than the Protestants. But we all had to abstain from meat on Fridays at the public high school, intimidated by the Catholic population.
So glad I left all that indoctrination that still reaches the highest levels of the United States government when they pray on a Bible over every little thing.
