The years have erased what little pain there
Was when you walked away home.
No more did I feel like a top forever spinning
To find a direction in your life. Walls you built
Were impervious to words or actions.
You searched for greener visions only to have
Darker dreams. No more poems torn into shreds
Left on the bed I shared with myself. No more
Bouquets of fragrant flowers thrown outside
To spread their essence in meaningless wilt.
No more harsh words spoken in anger or drunken
Stupors. You walked away from home, but home
Didn’t walk away from me. For I built a different
Kind of home. Four corners strong and tested
Through the furnaces of life’s fires. Corners of
Integrity, chivalry, trust, and laughter cover a
Foundation of faith. That is the home I now have
And will forever abide within. One will enter in
To read of love in words hidden for her to find.
One will warm when flowers for no reason
Fill the home with scents from Heaven. One will
Hear how pretty she is even though she doesn’t
Feel she is today. One will walk away, walk away
Straight to my home to stay.
