To many hearts you hold within your bough
Makes one wonder just plain how
You can hold on to so many dreams
Branches will give out on you it seems
Webbing out to so many open hearts
Leaves of wonder reaching out
Thinking one doesn’t know they other
Your own roots are in a blunder
Trunk stands firm beneath, you think?
Sandy soil is underneath
Slowly water washes clean
Root rot then with you will deem
To many hearts you hold within your bough
Branches are now beginning to bow
Leaves have blown to meet each other
Soil washes out from under
Roots give way as you do fall
Once strong trunk can’t hold it all
Firewood you have become
Botanical deception was bound to come undone
The weight of to many hearts
you held within your bough
Made one wonder just plain how
You could hold on to so many dreams
Your branches gave out on you it seems

The colors in the photo caused me to want to keep my silence and just reverence the vision, Teri. Then, of course, I grew anxious to read what the sight would speak to you. The poetic response to the picture is perfect!

A good use of images and words! Great write and loved the picture.
My friend and I lunched in a local park yesterday, which happens to be home to some of the grandest oak trees I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Yesterday we paused to admire one in particular and spent quite a few moments admiring this majestic creature. As we walked away, perhaps we had gotten 100 yards I felt an urge to look back. It felt as though the tree was bidding us farewell, and a soon return. I swear I think I'm losing it!!! ") Your poem brought to mind this tree.
