Lined up black birds sit silently in a row swaying on the winds wires. Waiting patiently for the black raven in delicate blue silk slippers. Wiley wind blows colder this time of year as the pumpkin smiles. Dance nymphs of the autumn, as the harvest approach’s your wrath.
Darkness arrives for the season to shuffle and use in the landscapes. Whom do you hear as the branches tap tunes against glass in code? Dusk laughs often as this is his time of the year to touch many souls. Frightened children beg one for candy dodging egg bombs from above.
Solemn sweater clad women run out to the concrete plaza for a deal. Stuffed dead turkeys smell up the air preparing for a feast of the fall. Husbands and wives fight freely over money spending illogically. This is the last celebration before the ladies in white reclaim their land.
Stunning poetic imagery in this poem. I especially love the description of the black birds and raven...waiting in delicate blue silk slippers.
Your poem made me smile. :~) Autumn is my favorite time of year!

Wonderful seasonal poem, Theresa...this line is so unique and everlasting in my mind,
"Whom do you hear as the branches tap tunes against glass in code?"
The secrets of the holidays only the branches and glass would know, but I think perhaps it may be the nymphs of autumn alerting the black birds and ravens of the acorn's whereabouts. Be well always, Theresa...Blessed Be.
ahhh! I do love the autumn, so many beautiful transitions; from the changing of the leaves to the chill of the wind that nips at my face and pinks my cheeks. She is the last harrah before the hunker down of winter has me longing for the comforting fragrances of breads and pies cooling on the counter and large kettles of soup simmering on the stove. I couldn't resist, I already had to make a big pot of roasted pumpkin soup to kick off the season. Your poem is so colorful, much like the autumn herself. Your images are strong, probing deep into my memory banks and rekindling fond thoughts of years past...hay rides, leaves burning and harvest festivals...OK!!! your words have gotten me all pumped me up and readied for the season.
Take care,
Sherry
