Crimson Bud

As the tired day bids her farewell
Downcast eyes
Adjusting to the greeting of dusk
A drumbeat she hears
Unhurriedly marching
To a tune that’s differently slow

A silent flowing breeze
Lightly kisses her cheeks
She stands
A solitary figure
Lost into the distance
But her thoughts recall
Years preceded
Her mentor her friend
Who’s absent of late!

Her face bows into her hands
Eyes shut and darkness engulfs her
Unmistakeable though
She feels what her thoughts have evoked

Each drop
To the earth falls
Seeping into the roots
Of the rosebush she tenderly nurtures
Enough to maintain
The flourishing
and unfurling
Of a further crimson bud
