Lonely

There is no loneliness worse than not being loved for who you are...

Have you ever been lonely? Felt that still deep well of pain? The real lonely….. Not just the absence of friends Lonely is a child….. Lifting her arms for a hug That no one sees Or wants…. Lonely is a girl Who has never known acceptance… And sees only shuttered faces Reflected in her seeking eyes… Lonely is a woman No one sees Or cares to know.. Always found wanting… Lonely is a deep abiding ache A desert.. Where the sound of her weeping Is never heard A wasteland of loss Where truth is dishonoured And love is a contract With terms and conditions Lonely is a woman Who is not seen Or heard Whose words fall silently Like tears… Lonely is lost With no safe harbour No place anywhere To call home Do you know lonely? I do….. It is the savage beating No one sees The rape of body and psyche That scars the soul Throbbing unseen Like an unwelcome friend In the cold dark hours of the night It is the pain of a terror... No one understands The reaching for a loving hand But there's no one there.. That's real lonely…
