Why do you say you write with your heart but you copy old rhymes as your own? I googled this rhyme because my dad used to say this to me sitting on the porch around 1968. He knew it I believe from his childhood. I was confused to see a modern person as the author.
It’s no different than the children’s rhymes said on playgrounds. You can’t write them down and call them your own. The one I know is slightly different wording but I won’t write it here.
Maybe you should come up with your own original work. Some of us have special memories of this.

My Dad, now 90, told me the story of Oowie Goowie, 53 years ago. I'm 57 now.

I agree with Tara. I learned this poem as a two year old - and I am 71 years old - as:
Ooey gooey was a worm
A mighty worm was he
But one day, on the railway tracks,
A train he did not see...
ooooooey gooey

This Edwin Larson may be very talented , however he did not write this poem! My grandmother told her two sons this poem, both born in 1954. She made me smile numerous times with the ooey gooey poem in 1974 and my brother again in 1978. I today am sharing with my son born in 2011. My grandmother told it almost the same way instead it was... Ooey gooey was a worm
