The Guys Remember...
Cars candy-apple red with side pipes
Fuzzy dice hanging down
Gas at twenty cents a gallon
And a free gift with a fill-up in town
Leather jackets, collars turned up
Coffin boots lined in quilted red
A smoke hanging from your lip
Another between your ear and head
Hair slicked back with Brylcream
Scents of Old Spice on your face
Drinking Cokes from green glass bottles
Memories so hard to replace
Begging for a chicks attention
While pretending not to care
Rebel songs and wallet chains
Practicing Clint’s cold eyed stare
Leather jackets, collars turned up
Coffin boots lined in quilted red
A smoke hanging from your lip
Another between your ear and head
Hair slicked back with Brylcream
Scents of Old Spice on your face
Drinking Cokes from green glass bottles
Memories so hard to replace
Begging for a chicks attention
While pretending not to care
Rebel songs and wallet chains
Practicing Clint’s cold eyed stare
The Gals Remember…
Bobbi socks pulled up to your knees
Those black and white shoes we HAD to wear
When I could buy a cola for only six cents
Life was grand and we didn’t care
Adding peanuts was the grandest thing
Sitting on a blanket at the drive in show
Eight kids sharing drinks and popcorn too
The main attraction and a hotdog to go
Pretending to be mad and phony crying
When that cute boy pulled your pigtails
Walking barefoot in the heat of summer
Laying pennies to flattened on steel train rails
Dusk would be falling and mama called us in
That was the sweetest sound on Earth to hear
Cause supper on the table from Mama's own hands
Was always enough for eight hungry kids to share
Swinging on and old swing in our backyard
While Mama washed clothes tubs of galvanized tin
Running through the woods and climbing trees
Trying to keep up with my brothers and kin
How fast the years go by and remembering is bittersweet
Listening to Hank Williams and Elvis in my heart still dear
Bobbi socks pulled up to your knees
Those black and white shoes you HAD to wear
It took me back to my childhood and brought back memories
of a simplier time in my life.
