A single tear rolls down her cheek like a bead from a lava lamp
Following the wrinkles and curves of her worry lined face
It rolls so silent but speaks volumes about an ache deep inside
One that she has successfully hidden but could never quite erase
In one hand she holds a wrinkled black and white picture
A babie’s image worn from to many secret celluloid kisses
Folded and refolded when the liquor helped her seek the past
When she couldn’t push back the flow of unfulfilled lost wishes
In the other hand an opened letter most formal in its sober reply
Post marked Vancouver City from a net the Parent Finders cast
She ponders what to do now that she’s finally found her child
Her little girl is women now thirty years have now gone past
From the envelope falls a picture of a smiling little girl of three
She picks it up and knows at once that’s she’s now a granny too
Then that single tear turns into a thunderstorm for all that she has missed
Trembling hands dial the B.C. area code now she knows what she must do
According to your write, you imply that she drinks, and apparently drinks to drown the memories of a youthful choice. I tend to believe that her choice was the correct one, but to go back now and try and undo it, could be devastating not only to her life, but to the now grown daughter and her child.
It's not the choices we make in life..it's the image we see in the mirror afterwards that determines who we become.
Awesome write Felix!
