Powerful in both sentiment and expression. Lucid and visual. This can't fail to make it's mark, Felix, and is a jolt to remind us just how fragile life is - at any age. Somehow we never quite believe that it will either happen to us or that we are not invincible. Tragedy is what happens to others... This is both numbing and stirring and I hope a fiction, although of course it is larger than life for too many of us. Overwhelming. LOL Kate xx
Sheesh Felix this hits as hard as that freight train. Another impactful write that left me with a deep sense of sadness.
Once while I was on the road and stuck in a traffic jam caused by an accident I got a strange feeling, almost a premonition. My daughter Candice noticed my agitation and asked me what was wrong. I couldn't explain. Some time later we passed the accident scene. A mangled motorbike in pieces across the road and saw a paramedic place a blanket over a young boys face. We were moving slowly past the accident scene and I looked down and saw his young hand protruding from beneath the blanket. He must have been 16 or 17 but the fingers were curled with the innocence of a babe. Tears streamed down my face and I could not shake that awful feeling. Later that day I discovered that the boy who was killed was one we knew. A joy ride on a motorbike ended his young life. I still get tears in my eyes to think of it. Your poem evoked similar memories.
So well written.

Like Jerry, at times, my younger years, were waiting for that train. At times, those dreams, remind me of the many lifes I destroyed, by driving the train. A great write, where memories and spiritual thoughts, make the "wild" wonder why we're still here, while others are not...
Wow, this really hit home, how tragic. Youth think they are invicible... The sadness, that the head on the shoulder, like she had seen on the tube, was just that, NOT reality. A superb write Felix.
Warm hugs

Ah, yes, I have to pinch myself every so often just to make sure I really did live through my own wild and wooly youth.
