Most of you know this feeling...

Editing Blues

Three hundred and some odd well thumbed pages

Covered in red ink and stains from coffee rings

Halfway there and it’s just the beginning

Another swig of coffee, make my keyboard dings

Two years in the writing, six months with no sleep

Forty-three rejection slips, too many tears to weep

A contract that guarantees the author won’t get rich

From a publisher who is one hell of a moody bitch

Now deadlines closing in, pressure takes its toll

Four thirty in the morning, I drink my coffee cold

One more page, one more chapter, one hundred more to go

Eyes are growing weary; I should be in bed I know

Some day I hope to make it big, find a decent publisher

One that will pay the cost of me to have a decent editor!

Work, work, and more work. This was a cute way of expressing how you feel when trying to get something done. Hope it is going well. Karen

LOL this is a great write Felix. You express your frustration so well but with ample lashings of humour to keep us smiling and nodding along in agreement. Wishing you the very best with your manuscript dear friend.

Yes, this can be quite the ordeal, Felix. But even the nicest of editors can have, sometimes, the rather exasperating attribute of asking the author... "Are you sure this is what you wanted to write? Perhaps you meant to write...? Could it be that, instead, you wanted to say...?" Don't let this frustrate you too much. When all is said and done, you are the author of the book, and they are not, just like Robert Jude said.
I wish you the best of success.

i understand your frustration Felix, so when i write a poem, i edit it again a few months later and then it is what it is ... i couldn't care less what any other editor thinks how it should be ... if it's not appreciated or "good enough," so be it ...

Very true, very decent and poignant write Felix. What editors want today is violence, sex, more violence and more sex, and the steamier the sex and the more violent the violnce, the more they will publish it. I have sooooooo many rejection slips, I could wallpaper my entire house with them. Sleepless night huh. I've been there, and i am not saying how many sheets of paper I balled up and threw away cause I made mistake after mistake. Ohhhhh the occupational hazards of being a writer. But one day, I will be rich and famous (yeah right). I really like this one Felix, thnx for sharing this with us. May the Lord Jesus bless you and yours, and be with you always, and at your sdie constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Great write. Good luck to you. This is when you should push the hardest. This is the rocky road that is hard to traverse and I have the utmost respect for you, Felix, to have come this far! My God, what an accomplishment and wise words from Elizabeth...

You have the wrong publisher.
Editors come and go...are paid very litte so have NO sense of humor, and you have to watch they don't put their own stamp on your work.
Believe in yourself and your work...screw everything else.
However, I don't know how to get around the self-editing. (Keep smiling)
