Scratch the Surface
I saw a teen girl who laughed to loud
We all though he a little crazy
We didn’t scratch her surface
We were just a little lazy
Then when they found the note
Our guilt was hard to bear
Her laughter was her cry for help
From the abuse she lived in fear
A senior never complained of life
The way society let him down
Always had a friendly word for all
You’d never seen him wear a frown
When he died they found the cans
Of pet food in his kitchen cupboard
We didn’t scratch his outer ego
It was much easier left ignored
I went to lunch with an old friend
He called me out of the blue
Said her life was going great
I guess I wanted to believe it too
When the final divorce papers came
They found her lying all alone
Perhaps if I’d scratched a little deeper
She may have picked up her phone
The lord gives us lots of chances
To reach out to each others hearts
We may have to scratch the surface
Find a way to reach their hurting parts
Like Jesus did on his road to Cavalry
He scratched the surface often
Let him be an example to us all
The load of others we may soften.
Sometimes a little scratching may open up some healing wounds...and starts to bleed again!!
But as the doctor says sometimes bleeding is a good thing...it drains the poison!!
Thanks for listening!!
