Neighbourhood Sounds of Summer
As the stars twinkle on and the man in the moon waves a hand
I stand on my back deck to try and truly understand
The wonders of night time when summers in bloom
Turn off the news for a while too much gloom and doom
The crickets and preepers singing a song all their own
An alley cat somewhere cries for her mate so alone
I hear a guitar in the distance playing some melodious tune
A screen door slams shut, street lights come on too soon
Some teenager’s old hot rod backfires with a crash
A girl pleads with her Mother for more spending cash
The kids in the park cheer for a great home run swing
Slaps on bare skin don’t dull the mosquito’s sharp sting
I pop the top off a beer to the barbecue’s sizzle and flare
Turn over the steaks and take another chug of my beer
The sounds of my neighbourhood’s summer I treasure it so
Cause in less then three months we’ll all be knee deep in snow.
Ahhh the beauty of sound in the joy of summer, who wants to listen to gloom and doom anyway? Allow the heart and mind to be filled with inspiration.
A super write Felix, keep enjoying the steaks before the snow falls ;)

Your writing is so vivid, appealing to all the senses, so it was not only good to read, but I felt involved, as well. That's not easy to do. Great stuff! katy xox
