Yea they’re old and scuffed and scarred
No coat of polish will renew their shine
The leathers worn pretty thin in places
Yes they have seen a lot better time
No perhaps it’s not they’re not the proper
attire in this beautiful temple of silver and gold
I have a feeling thought that man upstairs
don’t mind that my boots are old
But you see friend these boots are my reminder
of all the roads I have walked in life
Wore them on my Daddy’s farm when I was a young man
And wore them the day I said I do to my darling wife
They got me from my work to the hospital
the day my baby girl was born
Stomped the floor at all the family weddings
so the soles got kind of worn
They stood on the dirt at Mother’s funeral as
my tears dripped on their toes
These boots marched many miles for peace
and the end to the war in Vietnam
When my cousins cross the border daily
gave their lives for Uncle Sam
My kids have all grown up and left
my dear wife has passed on ahead
I kneel each night and say my prayers
and see these old boots below my bed
So I think the Lord will understand if
I wear them when I kneel down here to pray
These old ratty boots are my reminder
of the love he gave me every day.

My goodness!!!!!!!!!!!
I just adore this
Its the simple things, this is so representative of where
you stand as a human being and as a man, and I don't even
know you, except thru your poetry.
I totally get the attachment to boots, I have had pairs that
I have pulled out every autumn and worn thru spring, for yrs.
And people would question why, why do you wear those beat up old things........
but there was such a physical comfort, as well and a comfort from
the familiar-ness of those old boots.
Fashion mavin that I was in my young vain yrs lol....which I am sooooooooooooo
totally over lol
even then, the boots, were my achilles heel!
no tocha da boots!!

I'll share it with you, it's the lyrics to a knock up Kiwi song from the 70's by an idiot namely John Clarke who called himself Fred Dag!
"Well there's rugby boots and racin boots
and boots for drinkin rum
but the only one's that I adore
are the one's that start with GUM"
Like I said he was and Idiot, who became very successful here downunder.
Sorry my mentality is on the blink tonight....
