Travellin’ Lennie
Wearing faded jeans and sneakers
He once rode the highway on his thumb
The winds would sing him lullabies
The cold too often left him numb
His only luggage was a knapsack
His old scratched guitar his friend
The open skies his motel rooms
New dreams waiting round the bend
In a rowdy tavern in Toronto
At a seedy hotel in old Cow Town
A kitchen party down in Halifax
He’s played his music all around
It’s been fifteen years since destiny
Reneged his traveling right
He’s grown soft as he snuggles warm
In her loving arms each night
Still, he plays his old guitar now and then
Songs of the road he rides no more
Her smile makes up for what he lost
It was a love he couldn’t ignore
Still sometimes a lonesome whistle
Of a boxcar running down it’s track
Or the gears of a semi grinding
Well bring the old urge back
He’ll brew another cup of tea
His old six-string he’ll softly play
Until the early morning hours
Reminds him again why he must stay.

Is this YOU? or YOU in a dream?
Ahhhh... Music - Soothing to the Soul!
This poem should go into a cowboy book of some kind!
WArm HuGs, Warrior Sheeeoxxo
This poem is like a country song and even the guitar looks like the ones the old cowboys carry this is a beautifully written poem on reminiscing the past and what could have been. I like the vivid imagery with which you described the things that went on in the past
And reminding him why he must stay!!
Excellent imagery of the Travelin' Lennie
Nice poetic thoughts...Fee I like this one very much!!
