yOUch, this took a HuGe chunk out of my heart!
That final exit is felt sternly and with no doubts, the only thing
left is:
Growth and future possibilites!

This captures so well the absoluteness of that final, defining moment of decision. It's a moment filled with both a sense of strength, and of grief for the loss of something precious.

At least that's what I got from your poem. :o)
And that's what poetry is all about.

I enjoyed the rhyme and rhythm in this poem with the well done repetition. You hammer the point down well here, and it's not only a poem that shines on the page, but read aloud it has even more meaning.
