mistress widow

a single white rose wilting

not looking at it’s best

laid on a bed of fresh dug soil

a day later then the rest

dressed in mourning black

alone she cries his name

she never got to say goodbye

mascara streaks of shame

she knew she’d never hold him

in the darkness of the night

knew she’d never share

hands held in broad daylight

she never admitted it to him

never put him on the spot

accepted love in second place

his sweet forget me not

her hope lived in a fantasy

that just maybe someday

she’d hear his voice tell her

from now on he would stay

the years slipped on by

what must be must be

she waited in the wings

where no one could see

that single wilted white rose

is their final goodbye

love stole memories and youth

she has no more tears to cry

A wonderful tribute to the unaccepted and misunderstood. Families can love their father yet blame his mistress for his love for her. Lady J

This reminds me of a woman's love for a sailor whose first love was always the sea. She waited for him quietly for all of her days, never asking him the difficult questions. Even in his death, she could never openly claim his heart. Beautiful poem, Felix.
Take care,
Sherry

love that continues to hide within the heart is indeed a sorrowful experience ... the regret of never revealing its intentions and desires is like a wilted rose in a garden of unfulfilled emotion ...

a moving and finely quilled poem, Felix ...

Sad beyond sad.
This makes me grieve for her; she has lost so much--youth, honor, a home with a man she can freely, rightly love, and that all-important first place in his heart, even the right to grieve openly. You have said it so well here.

Yes! The mourn for love continues when unrequitted love never dies. Such is immotalality for some lovers.
This is a soft tribute to the few who choose real love.
Always,

This poem shook my heart to the core Fee but somehow I think you knew it would. I feel like cutting down the spectacular climbing white rose in my backyard but won't. Instead I'll take a cutting from it and plant it in the yard of my new home. Who knows, someday I may need to take one of the blooms and lay it on a grave. Pass the Kleenex.
Hugs,
Marcia
