A Soldier’s Prayer
By Felix L. Perry
Gunsmoke seared his nostrils
Battle thunder dulled his his ears
Blood is a rare commodity
Traded for a mother’s tears
Yes, the soldier fights for freedom
Is often lost in the battle cry
But alone one frightened soldier
Breathes a long and heavy sigh
The soldier reads his letter
From his loved ones far away
He wipes away a lonely tear
Then drops to his knees to pray
He talks to his God to guide him
Give him strength to still stand tall
To bravely stand for freedom
When his backs against the wall
Tonight he’ll close his eyes in sleep
The bugler plays taps against the night
In the morning he’ll be charged and ready
To once again take up the freedom fight!
This poem screams out fear, weariness and maybe just a little hope on rising up and heading in again.

I pray every Soldier's spouse and family comes across this beautiful
expression of appreciation. When we honor them, we honor God, who tells us to give honor to whom honor is due.
I will see our nephew gets to read this, Fee...and other young Servicemen and Servicewomen. Thank you. God bless all of them, and God bless YOU, Fee.
Love&appreciation, Rhonda

As a Veteran, I appreciate you honoring our fighting men and women in uniform as they give their all in sacrifice for the freedoms we so cherish; I salute and thank you, Sir, for YOUR service, and for this moving write.
