The Perry Boys

Don’t let the flowers fool ya

We were a dangerous bunch

The Perry boys from down Tuft’s Cove

We all could pack a wicked punch

Billy the big tall lumbering beer

Flaming red his hair and beard

Loved the call of the ocean

So too the demon rum we shared

Johnnie was our penny pincher

We all thought he’d make it rich

He was the first of us to own a bike

Now he’s a civil servant life’s a bitch

Moe was the oldest brother

I think a heavy weight to have to bear

When the old man of the family

All too soon he wasn’t there

And young brother Jims not in the picture

At eighteen the highway claimed his life

He was the first of us to go

Cut our family circle like a knife

And I that’s me up in the back

Even than the writer and the bard

I’d never admit to being a poet back then

Poets just weren’t tough and hard

Oh we had four sisters too

I’ll write their tale another day

I’m just proud now that I was a Perry boy

I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
