Sometimes the world seems to be against us until we actually take time to do a human values inventory and then...voila...family.

Poem Artwork

I’m busy hawking my stories

Like velvet paint-by-number art

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Early retirement sucks big time

My world is falling apart

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

I’m doing extra work in movies

Hoping they’ll give me some breaks

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Talent agent said we like your smile

Think you got what it takes

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Counting change from the piggy bank

For gas to drive my truck

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Feeling guilty I don’t have change

For that panhandler down on luck

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Eating Kraft dinner leftovers

Stretching our budget to the max

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

No t-bone steaks for this good old boy

I can’t afford to pay my income tax

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

The second mortgage on the house

Means I’ll not live to see it mine

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

I have diabetes and a broken heart

The sun for me don’t want to shine

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

Ahhhh but my little girls all grown up

All happy healthy and living free

Maybe it was supposed to be like this

Ahhh and granddaughters give baby girl kisses

While grandson horsie rides on Poppy’s knee

Yes now I am sure…

this was how its supposed to be!

I like the turn in this Fee - "...it was supposed to be like this" - when things are not as one imagines or had hoped for, it takes a while for one to realise the very positive 'all is as it is supposed to be' - and counting blessings, especially remembering/being with the people we love sure brings that home here. I tend to feel that things generally are always as they are meant to be - when i feel really low about all things, acceptance is from where all positivity grows - and you seem to have that in bundles - thank you for your recent reviews - your positivity and generosity has helped me - cheers Fee, Nicky xx

When my husband died I said those words more often than I can count and there is that part of me that still feels the same... but I also know that we don't have control over some things so perhaps it is supposed to be this way.. and those grandchildren can make even the bad seem tolerable..))

Oh Felix... wherever we are, guess there are many things in life for which we can say "it wasn't supposed to be like this", but the mix of beaten out emotions PLUS other forms of material hardship do certainly make a most acid mix. But yes, when all's said and done, just look at who's around you and thank God you're not alone... even if you might like to be at times. An honest acount from the heart but a tender exhoration for each one of us to truly count our living blessings! Friends, too... and sometimes most especially! Love, Kate xx

How I agree. Physically we retire hoping for an easy life and get all sorts of ills, but the little ones keep us happy. It was meant to be that way. Victor

WONDERFUL is this poem dear Fee. I think life is designed to be difficult. Battling life makes us strong. If we didn't have storms we'd never appreciate the sunshine. Right? And, when we sort everything out we find that all that's really important is family. I got a call from my son last night and another grandchild is on the way. WOOO HOOO! Wouldn't we rather eat Hamburger Helper surrounded by loved ones than a t-bone steak alone? Yes we would!!!

Looking for my morning smile, I found a kindred spirit instead. Much better gift. Oh, how I can relate. When the alternative is the "Butterfly Effect", I'll take this reality any time. Carry this beautiful picture close to your heart. Got to go pay some bills.

Grandpa, when you are surrounded by Roses you can't se the little Forget-me-not ones; I am sure that there around in life, that rose of yours had many thorns, while thorns will be there forget the pain and enjoy the carpet of flower over it.
Goo-goo?

Dear cuz so many times in my life I thought it wasn't suppose to be like this, I thought life so unfair. But my life with my man and having my children from the beginning, I realize life was meant to be just the way it happened. The good and the bad. There is a reason for everything in life.

Love you cuz

Dear Fee,

All in the way we see it, yes? So many gifts, so many disappointments. As I've heard said, we play the cards and be grateful we have them. A tall order sometimes. Your poem is a beautiful piece of writing and I'll keep counting the blessings right before my eyes. Thanks for the reminder so eloquently lovingly expressed.

hugs and love,
Kathy

Yes Felix it was suppose to be just like this, and you like me are so thankful for it. You wouldn't change a single thing in your life for you would not want to know now what it would have been like without the family that you so love. A beautiful write from your heart. Keep it coming.
Love ya face XOXO Newfie Hugs for you, Rose

life seems like a completely raw deal.
its such a backwards set up at the best of times and i think if you sit round trying to make sense of it you will lose all faith.
but god always has a bigger purpose that we cannot see.
it would seem to me that you have stepped back and seen a glimpse of the bigger purpose in the writing of this piece.

these last two weeks have been so hard for me.
simply impossible.
i busted my collarbone 6 months ago when coming off my motorbike and it is STILL very busted and i am always sore and i am sick of not working and not being able to do much because of pain it creates and im just worn down by the whole game.
but then i stop and think about the way i have been able to form relationships with the kids from youth group [ive stepped into the role of youth worker at my church this year] because i havent been working so theyve been able to drop in and hang out and say hi...
it seems like a priceless gift to me

so here we both are... torn by the way things are... wondering whether they should be how they are...

i guess we just gotta keep living it and hang on in there...
your luck has got to change some time soon and then youll have so much T bone steak youll be giving it away =)

I completely understand, Fee, we all go through these tough times, and especially now, the way the economy is. Retirement is suppose to be the times to do all the things you couldn't do because you were working your butt off, and raising a family. It sounds like you still have the love and light from your family, and you know what, that is all that matters anyway.
Peace, Love, and Light,
