Though I have nothing but the utmost respect for the men and woman of the Canadian Armed Forces, it grieves me to see so many young men being killed in action with no end in sight what so ever...

Poem Artwork

Another Name, Rank and Serial Number

By: Fee

Today more teardrops fell on winter ground

While the bugles sang their mournful sound

Laid to rest a young man in a soldier’s grave

A folded Canadian flag for someone to save

In a foreign land so very far from his home

When a bomb went off he died so all alone

Sacrificed and died in valour standing proud

The preacher man tells the heart broke crowd

Cold granite now etched with name and rank

The mother and father minds a painful blank

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust we hear him say

Why is it always the young who have to pay…

This war is all taking a toll on all of us. Losing someone close to you because of war is very hard to deal with, but knowing that people acknowledge and show their love and support of our soldiers, is a wonderful feeling.

Thank you Fee for such a beautiful write. God Bless our Soldiers...God Bless America!

You touch the hearts of those of who grieve - be it immediate family or those of us who find war to be a meaningless activity. All in the name of .... what? Yet, I [personally] am grateful to those who stand proud to serve their country in an effort to keep us safe.

Much love. Kathy

well said Fee - loss - there is another poem that touched me very much, i forget the name now -birth of a son and the mother is checking the little body of her new baby -marveling and praying for all to be well, yet it crosses her mind to hope for one tiny deformity that would mean he would not have to go to war - i understand this, the 'flag for someone to save' is a very strong line, poignant stuff Fee, Nicky xx

Amen! God please hear our prayers! and give them strength to NOT go on!
Let a miracle be found! I ask you Lord, this we find no answer too, help open our hearts to what we are to know, through your gracious ways of display.
Sweet Fee - I feel your pain, this write came from deep within!
Many prayers go out to their families! and to the soldiers fighting for something they still believe in!
The title alone is intense as these feelings!

Having been personally touched by this war - my husbands best friends son, we knew him since he was a little guy, lost his life last year. I know all too well, what the feelings bring. Thank you for sharing.

Every surviving soldier carries in his heart the name, rank and serial number of each of his buddies that felt in action.
The Nation will never mourn them as the Veterans do.
The young should have the right to say NO to madness.

Fee,

A powerful piece of poetry with a timeless message. Your imagery evokes sadness, and my thoughts go out to these soldiers and their families. The title of this poem says so much!

The only thing that is more sickening than the deaths of so many for nothing...is the rotten powers that cause these wars for greed, dominion over all.
Man will still try and unite the whole world, though he has failed so many times..
While the whole world is focussed on wars, they don't see the enemy sneaking up behind them.
Watch the economy mate!

Thank you Felix for caring, as you know Iam married to the Military for the past thirty years. I've had family say you aren't going to let him go but they don't understand that's their job, they singed up to fight and support us. Many sleepless night shave been had and many more will come. My heart goes out everytime we hear another life is taken. Thank you for sharing Fee.

I am from a military family. Still when my oldest son was shipped to the Gulf War, nothing calms the stomach, mind, or nerves of a mother. When his ship was the first to be hit in the war, it was a mixed blessing. Once we finally found out he was OK his ship went into dry-dock in San Diego and that is where he spent the balance of the war.
We were lucky.
We are losing about one a week in our community with this war. So sad and so scary.
We can never thank our young men and their families enough.
Very touching write.

Our young are too high of a price to pay for this insanity. And for what? Nothing that is going to advance the human race of any of the countries involved. Your poem is excellent and I felt the cold granite under my fingers as you described the funeral process. I felt the numb empty brains of the parents. You put me there with your writing. Liz

With ther histories of war ...soldiers die moreso than Generals, colonels etc. Why is that ? Freedom is priceless and so are the deaths that are lost for freedom. The valor of enlisted men and women are what puts our countries, respectfully, ahead of the tyrants who pray on others with their terrorism. War has changed but the fight is much the same.

Susan

Each day more young people are killed in accidents than in any war time day. They have the freedom of choice and to some their Country comes first even if they have to die for it. God bless all our men and women in our Armed Forces and to those who die may they rest in peace knowing they have died for a noble cause and may their loved ones be comforted by our Almighty God as they grieve their loss.

Too many of them dying nowadays, but unfortunately, that's the price of freedom. Some give all, including their lives. God be with those families who've lost loved ones to war! Powerful write; well penned, Fee~

... good question, sweet Fee! I share your pain and the pain of the soldier's families. To me it doesn't matter which colors the Flag carries, which drapes their cascets. Fighting the evil united is their mission - and I stand proudly beside you to honor the ones who gave the utmost!
Deep write, makes me ache.

Fee,

I thank God for those who will fight in our stead. That doesn't mean I don't grieve when one of them dies...but that's the price sometimes paid. A cost too difficult to fathom, especially for families that lose a loved one...powerfully penned sadness. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
