Just took a drive last night through a rather upscale neighbourhood and though I normally rhyme these thoughts just came to mind and wanted to share...

A Slice of  the New Suburbia

By: Fee

Cruise along the solar powered plastic world of suburbia

Where the emerald green grass is paid for blade by blade

Notice the once white picket fences have been replaced

For manicured and chemically enhanced shrubbery

Two car garages cage the raging SUV’s and Beamers

While here and there top-end Harleys scream look at me

Please take note no kids play in vacant lots or backyards

This is the land of MP3 ear-bud kids and their electronic toys

See the name tagged dressed mothers with Thorazine smiles

Or some other fashion drug of choice by their chemical gurus

Father’s drive ride-on mowers on twenty by twenty lawns

With Corona’s and limes in the plastic built in cup holders

Better cruise a little quicker now for in the rearview mirror

Body builder rent-a-cops are today’s elite mercenary force

And watch every move your battered old Ford makes

On perfectly paved streets wider than some highways

Welcome to suburbia in the year two thousand and eight…

This made me smile, but sadness and artificial plastic people came through, to me quickly!
Time will tell, what stands to reason, we need to bring back the strength of yesteryear!
Too much of truth is said in these lines! of truth!
Love the corona and lime (add on) must have for my simple tastes!
You said it all too well! SWEET FEE!
WRITE ON!
Warmest Blessings and Inner Peace, Warrior Purple Lady Sheexooo

great description Fee, MP3 ear-bud kids, Thorazine smiles, labels, mowed lawns for show, protected wealth. New Suburbia, sounds bland, but always nice to see a Harley - enjoyed your safari Fee :)

Fee,
The thing I dislike most about these "gated communities" is the fact that each of them resemble the next. Where is the homeowner's expression of free will and creativity? Though I don't drink, I imagine myself drunk and arrested by security for trying to get into the wrong house. Or maybe my mind is elsewhere when I walk in on, by accident, the neighbors' only creative expression...making love on their living room carpet. The details you give bring us right to this neighborhood, and I recognize local "gated communities" through your words. Excellent work:)

Perfect picture and write
it seems to be a very unhappy and artificial place to me!
I love a neighborhood where kids play
In their front yard Money makes some people
Live in very high class boring places!
But Love the Corona and Lime!
Truly interesting and beautifully writing!
Peace Love and Hugssss...Morning star

Very astute observations of plastic neighborhoods where children are no longer free to roam outdoors and explore this fine land....

Be always safe,
Karen

I really like this style for you, Fee. "Thorazine smiles" is what really caught my attention. For me, this demonstrated that despite wealth, humans still have human problems. When all materialism is stripped away, we are simply human beings striving to be loved, yearning to be happy, longing to be accepted. Eutopia lives in our hearts and in peace of mind and cannot be found in beamers, harleys or manicured lawns or anything else outside of Self.

We need to fence and gate it. Wouldn't want peple like that to get out into society.

Scary what we've become.

Picture perfect...some people got it and some just have to go without the luxuries that money can offer...but give me nature and enough to survive without a call from the bank... and I am a happy gal!!

A sickening, extremely artificial place to me, and sadly, the wave of the future. I didn't last very long in one of these places, where feeding birds and letting one's dogs pee on their pristine, chemically treated plastic lawns, have now become heinous crimes.

I like my little shack much better!

I think people who can afford all life has to offer, have a right to enjoy it as they please. And they should not have to feel ashamed of what they have. They worked hard to get there. Why shouldn't they be able to spend the money they earned.

They don't drive around laughing at how little poor people have. ~ Sara

It's such a superficial world these days, do you really think these neighborhoods will stand for the next 200 years? Not like the solid houses our forefathers built you can believe that!
We need to go back to basics...that is a must.
Peace, love, and light,

The rich or affluent always live a different life than us average Joe's or Janes. I live in Levittown, N.Y. and what was once talked about to turn into a slum has bloomed to match any Hollywood setting with manicured green lawns and shrubbery and trees growing outside most homes. Yeah and I ride a Craftsman 18HP mower cause I can't push those others anymore, who says you have to be rich to enjoy a nice setting. It's what you make it.

...And I bet they don't give a rip about the people on the other end of the spectrum (I and/or the working poor, the destitute, the homeless); they are too busy with their lives, their money. Sad, if you think about it. Great write, though; well penned, Fee!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
