Just a capture of all the fives in my life...

Poem Artwork

Fifty-five

By: Fee

When I was five I went to school for the first time

Didn’t like it much, got strapped for talking back the first day

Already a bit of a rebel, already society was making me pay

When I was five and ten I had my first taste of love

She was eighteen and if her Daddy had of known

I helped her with more than homework in her room alone…

When I was twenty five I learned the cruelty of death

Mother, Father, brother all were there then gone so fast

Stood over granite rock and I cried like a soul downcast

At I was thirty-five found that there can be a second chance

Stole into my heart and my children grew from one to three

Rough at times but always managed to find an extra knee

Forty-five found me with my five seconds of fame

A book called Red Soil and the author’s name as mine

I will never forget seeing my daughter’s eyes prideful shine

Now I am fifty-five, older, no wiser and looking out to sea

Counting my blessings and wondering why I’m still alive

and will I suervive ten more years to get my old age pension at sixty-five

I thought this was about "I Can't Drive 55" then I read and I was dumbfounded by the beauty and real life you put in it!
55 is YOUNG now a days, and it shows in the beauty of your soul and you!
I will be 50 myself in 1 and 1/2yrs... In the heart we know we are young!
I love how 'we' got to travel along life's roadway with you in this Wonderful caring, loving, growing poem!

WRITE ON!

Fee,
I've enjoyed this brief glimpse into your life via these 5-landmarks. I'm always amazed by events that have changing power. Since my back surgery, I take one day at a time. Before the surgery, I was a serious 'planner'. Your poem shows that certain events gave you that healthy respect for life along the way. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

I agree with Ed Matlock. lol. 55 can be scary and I think everyone at this age is questioning "how much longer" and it's not the funest thing to do. No one knows so enjoy, suffer, love and laugh. Liz

Will you survive ten more years to get your old age pension at sixty-five? Yep, with your wonderful reflective qualities and life experiences, I have a feeling that you'll sail past sixty-five and way beyond. The wonderful thing about being alive, aware and appreciative is that you can try to consciously influence your life direction as much as humanly possible in order to attain your life goals. I wish you an enriched, successful and joyous journey!

Older--no wiser-- I doubt that Felix. Older and grown wiser would be my guess. I love this write. Your losses season you but don't consume you as you move on through life.

Linda

Fee you have aged well, I wouldn't had give you one year older that seventy! I hope you did received the birthday cake from Sweden, if not you should ask the Fire Marshal there were a lot of little candles and they remember Australia's fires.
Ten years to retirement you say? I can give a tour of it if you wish.

No matter where we are in life, and what we had gone through in life, when we look back we always have some memories that are well-worth keeping, and we are always proud of who we are where we have arrived at. That is called "Life", and we are all in it and being proud of it!!!

Love your write!!!
