Omens in the Dark
I fear there’s a dark black, shade of hopelessness
Somehow my heart feels a depressed gun metal gray
Drab olive camo is the chosen tint of our world leaders
Who with open mouths have so very little they can say
Soon in the distance war drums will beat a call to arms
Over politician’s same old rhetoric of lying lines so lame
Over the horizon, the thunder’s crash like marching brass
Though vile the devils’ dance will harmonize once again
Stare out over the battlefield of youth’s stolen dreams
Do you see a loved one’s name on a fresh white cross
While Generals wash their hands of the blood stains
After all, they’ll just say: “They were an acceptable loss.”
But their words won’t dry a mother’s endless tears
Nor a folded flag take away a father’s vacant eye
No, an official letter won’t give a young wife courage
To explain to her children why daddy had to die!
"...they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." Isaiah 2:4
Oh, let it be. Heartfelt write, Fee.
