About being a grandfather...

Just Poppy The first time I found out I was going to have a grandchild My heart cried tears of joy As the second, third and fourth Came into this world This old heart filled to bursting As time went by. I watched Saw them grow Shared a thousand memories Over flowing Pride in them Became my life-blood The breath I took Each unique and different All of them special All of them loved when they laughed, I laughed But if they cried, I cried Co-joined emotionally My daughter called my dad Poppy It is what I am now called Now my young adults Only one thing to say Poppy loves you all...

I can relate to your sentiments as well, Fee. I have four grandchildren. They are still very young. Two in Australia, and two in Toronto, so not nearby. Thank God for technology so they do not seem so distant. Love, peace, and best wishes,

I know because we also have them - thirteen grands and now, two great-grands!

I don't have any children, but I had two grandfathers that were quite different.

Not only do you have of these grandchildren, and perhaps great-grandchildren to feel your love, you have gone on to take on the grandfather role in many a performance setting, making you a grandfather too many out there that you don't even know. What a lovely legacy you are leaving for all of them to admire.

This is a wonderful poem, Fee. As I get older one of my biggest regrets is that I never had a family of my own. Especially as I watch friends with their grandkids.

Although I am far from perfect and nowhere near the best person in the world, when I saw that saying above it caused me to pause for a moment. I thought and hoped that this is how my grandkids see me now and forever.
