50th reunion

Fifty years later

and we're so jazzed to connect

Steve Leon says this will be

the best one ever

and these here are high

on alcohol and hopeful

spirits

erasing the difficult years

to bring back the youthful

joy we shared

with the same

reckless abandon.

The shouting, the tagging,

the rushing, the hugs,

the pools of laughter

from different tables

erupting like waves

to fall again

all of us searching for what

was lost

trying to re-create

one last time

those first relationships

where we learned

to share, communicate,

to dissern,

identify, and finally,

individualte.

How we have each become

who we are

who we have become

where we have gone

in this finite life

we we all given

at the same time and place

the night echoes

into the autumn air.

At the 50th there are so many missing. Enjoyed, Kathleen.

You're right, the 50th certainly defines what we have become from those heady days of high school ambitions. I like that word individuate.

Made me recall my 50th where I surprised everyone by being there. Everybody pretty well stuck to their high school groups, but afterward a lot of people came around asking me about my books.

My twin brother went to our 60th last year only to find that half of the class is already gone. Not sure how many more reunions will be.
