Rain with Reign

He would hold back the rain

for a loved one in pain.

For the one he vowed

he would never leave.

For the one he would always

be on his knees

to please.

She kept him frightened

with consistent shame.

He thought he deserved it,

so he held back the rain.

It filled his eyes, his soul.

He wept his life force

down to a squeak.

Afraid of his power,

he could not speak.

He wanted to leave,

but could not leave.

So, for her,

he held back the rain.

He laid a carpet

of regard, with soft speech

and selfless pain.

She expect no less,

she continued to reign.
