Page from a Red Scream Burned in Translation

by Aberjhani — Read all 107 poems by Aberjhani

Are natural disasters the greatest threat to humanity's existence? Or are we our own greatest danger?

Sunday, October 9, 2005

Not your touch but your overloaded need

chained the world’s tongues to legends

of blood-smeared gold and iron tears.

Your souls broke like the planet’s heart,

drew us up from the dead waters

of your lives’ sudden insanity,

tumbled our apathy like burned bones

across the void of our bleeding names and faces.

We sat on cliffs of twilight overlooking hell,

struggling to dream ourselves blind

over the orgy of the furies of 2005:

the tsunami that ate humans raw,

the howling that raped Haiti numb,

twin hags Katrina and Rita tripped out on heroine,

the pornographic disease of terrorism and war,

and this earthquake that snapped the camel’s skinless back.

As if the frozen geometry of heaven’s sorrow

multiplied and spread like a tribe of wandering orphans.

The atomic white horror oozing in and out

of naked and bewildered humanity

stuffs our mouths with the scabbed flesh

of prophecies dipped in honey and acid.

Out of light and unseen years, we moan new beginnings

that no one has promised, and no one delivered.

sometimes it seems as if we all do need some kind of break from reality..a collective dream of sorts...but wait. that's the purpose of the mainstream media, of movies, fiction, the evening news. to distract us from what's going on behind the scenes...your poetry speaks directly to misdirection, and is indeed a prophetic call to open eyes, minds and souls to what is real...

Chaos, chaos, chaos... ...this world is reeling. I feel it. Your poem makes me feel it all. Thank you for sharing your gift. Love and peace to you.

Very rich use of idioms! Captivation poignant write with a powerful message! The last stanza sums it up perfectly "... Out of light and unseen years, we moan new beginnings that no one has promised, and no one delivered." Amazing write!

God bless, Aberjhani!

Starkly intoxicating, a superbly powerful write and observation of this fucked-up world at the moment. Is nature and the Universe really angry at us? Methinks we brought this upon ourselves.
Sublime write dear friend.

Aberjhani,

Excellent...mankind is on a slippery slope, and there ain't no stopping the slide. It's not only the "natural" disasters plaguing us, it's also our own man made ones...God help us.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Had to pop in and say this...."Orgy of the furies 2005"
Man has called up The Furies by his overloaded need and greed.
The Furies: Megaera [jealous], Tisiphone [blood avenger], and Alecto [unceasing in pursuit]....
Brilliant, Aberjhani! It does feel like it these days. Like what the hell! Who the hell! Who's fucking mad at us now and what in God's name did we do to you to deserve this? Gee, think about it, Humanity. But then there are those who'd say don't connect any dots this way to any divinity of any type. Whatever happens, happens randomly and there is no spiritual cause and effect on laws of science at work. Funny thing with that is the most brilliant scientists, after years of study and in their twilight years, frequently come to the conclusion that there's so much more to life than science and what can be explained by numbers, charts, taste, touch, and feel. "Orgy of the Furies of 2005" Fucking amazing, man!

Honey and acid. Just about sums it all up...
Makes one think. What has 2006 got instore.
Don't mean to sound like a party pooper. But celebrating the old year and welcoming in the new. Is not for me.
I'll just stick to a reflective Christmas.

Such a powerful write here..

i'm very impressed by the power of imagery in this poem and your exceptional ability to convey the world as it is and the prophetic insight to know will it will never be ...

In the cosmos of the Poet – TIME ignited the wind of imagination –and the wind of knowledge blew the picture of reason in the commanding spaceship transporting the VERB of wisdom, and the Poet was given the symbolistical lines to compose
"Page from a Red Scream Burned in Translation"... A voice duly refined and attuned to his mastership was given to be released by the Poet's tongue, when actions in cycles of warnings are depicted from the cosmological port of the Poet to be carried by the readers’ spaceships loaded with messages for the new colony of responsible citizens of the Earth.

I have read this "Page from a Red Scream Burned in Translation"
enjoying the privilege to see The Major Art glowing.
"Page from a Red Scream Burned in Translation" has paid its poetic dues enriching the treasure of Poetry.

May this magnificent wisdom carrier unload its cargo in all vessels moving on the seas of this century, and may it be etched on the doors of the millennia to witness the Poet’s passage on Earth.

I salute, You, Sublime Poet!

Why the poor seem to bear the brunt of nature's fury always bothers me and causes me to cry out to God, ENOUGH. Splendid write on the world's disasters calling to mind the need to help where we can.

"the pornographic disease of terrorism and war"; "the frozen geometry of heaven's sorrow"; "the scabbed flesh of prophecies dipped in honey and acid"... like something of a cross between Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali, somehow. Your very vivid imagery is both compelling and repelling in an artistic sense, and, for me, conveys that insane sense of our fascination and yet morbidity with horror. If we resolutely tuned in to only "good news" - if any could be found; not for the want of it, but nobody's prepared to publicise it - perhaps appetites would be assuaged which convince media moguls that "bad" is what sells and is therefore what peeps want. Nonetheless, the truth is out there and will not be denied; it's facing it with a balanced perspective that is, perhaps, difficult. And acting on it even more impossible. Not sure this is actually what I wanted to say, but then there's so much... so this is just a single thread! TY, rich and intoxicating as ever. Kate xx

but the new beginning has been prophesied as have the labor pains....exciting times we live in, even if the labor pains seem too much to handle
