Benazir Bhutto – Champion of Pakistan

She was born in the third world.

She never sought fame or fortune,

This Pakistani girl.

Instead she sought to deliver her people,

From the ravages of sickness and war,

But at first was just as any other child .

She was born June 21, 1953 in Karachi,

Becoming the leader of the opposition,

Rebelling against the tyranny of her government.

She spent years in prison or detention,

Because she had the nerve to want freedom

For her people as well as medicine and schools.

After years of turmoil, rebellion and violence,

She was sworn in as prime minister of

Her beloved Pakistan on December 2, 1988.

She was killed in an apparent car bomb suicide

On December 27, 2007, her loss grieved by a

nation divided as to her trustworthiness.
