This poem definitely shows the ebb and flow of abusive relationships. As a domestic violence counselor, I have to say that it would have much more impact - and be more empowering - if the last line were to say "WHY would I take you back?"

Powerful stuff.

Exquisite imagery Sandi, I liked the way you twist your readers around, kiss - whack - kiss - whack.
But I guess that's the story of a lot of relationships.

I am in agreement with Nordette...
The creep of a guy doesn't deserve that woman in the first place,
and she should definitely NOT want to go back...A really good piece of writing, though, Sandra.

My gal, once again bravo..

I've beeen there and back, there and back, so many times... Experienced the unimaginable lows and the unblievable highs, so many times... He took four good years of my life...
Love 'Strength of a Woman' (there goes the title of your next poem?OL) Getting better and 'healthier' everyday... Thanking my Lord for the strength to not 'Take him back'. Bravo Sandie, once again. You manage to connect with our emotions and then some...

This is an outstanding write, Sandi, because it should cause the astute person to reflect on the nature of the abusive/codependent relationship. I'm know you've heard one of the sisters favorite songs, Heather Headley's "I Wish I Wasn't." I love that song, BUT I have never featured it on any of my webpags because I cringe at the end of it everytime. The woman in the song apparently is being mistreated by this man, but in the end he shows up with gifts and kind words at the door and she's ready to take him back. Addiction of this sort is deadly. Great stuff, girl. ~~Nordette
PS: But I do feature Ms. Headley on my poem "Color" The girl can "sang!" LOL :-)

This is a Powerful poem of how all too many do think and expect. This poem is very inspirational and is just what is needed in all battered womens homes their friends, the shelters counselors and even work places. This poem is needed for children and battered men. This is Powerfully Wonderful and I thank you.

You did this so well Sandie! Only,it reminds me too much of my ex husband! Though it's mild compared to how he acted. This denotes
the way many couples behave, but hate to admit...Well done!

Every relationship has a "healthy sense" of give and take, which doesn't involve abuse, both physical and mental... sadly, the physical is easy to escape, but the mental can haunt a person for a lifetime... excellent write

I've had manipulative people in my past who treated me in just this fashion. They give and take and give and take to the point that you cannot see what they're giving anymore. They fill one's head with joyfulness while at the same time, berating you, knowing that the good things they said will stick with you (in that we all like to hear good things) and the bad things, though affecting the emotions and inner psyche, will roll past our eyes to where we cannot see how used we are. It's a nightmarish roller-coaster ride, until the day we're strong enough to say.... enough is enough. I'm happy to say I've done that and I've never looked back.

A vividly rendered portrait of the intimacies and betrayals prevalent in some relationships. WOULD YOU TAKE ME BACK pulls the skin off the false surface of abused love and reveals the blood of truth and potential flowing beneath. An exceptional write.
