Sometimes when things seem the worst, we are learning the most
The days felt longer while time slipped away The months seemed to drag by quickly With all eyes focused on me I struggled to appear the same They designed who I should be I fought to be free I traded freedom for safety Lost everything in an effort to win Wondered what would become of me Alone, I fought to be me again The things I learned were countless wisdom I gained immense It was a time I had to live through sifting through insanity to find some sense I decided where to go, by looking at where I'd been Sandy Knauer (from The Truth, As Seen Through Black Eyes)

Sandy... PLEASE write more! This is such a profound write; it touches me incredibly deeply. Can't really find adequate words, but somehow you knew this one would touch me the way it does! "Trading freedom for safety," and "moving on" (deciding where to go, by looking at where I've been [paraphrased]). Sometimes, we MUST trade freedom for safety; and that's a shame. And... we must move on. Jeff

In short you described the agonies of whole mankind...
"I traded freedom for safety
Lost everything in an effort to win
Wondered what would become of me
Alone, I fought to be me again"

And how cruelly doese it happen that mankind never could be what it always prayed for!

Sandy, love the poem. Those last two lines say it all. Sometimes life holds many surprises and learning to handle them as they come can mean the difference between failing or surviving.
