I. the feathers soften the Crow lines on her face, the age of her Tribe shows, the atlas carved on her face marred by muddy roads, she likes her partitions and separate fires, her dreary watercolors draw the strings of her heart that is broken, she paints with a grizzly bear claw, what makes her growl, the tobacco, she inhales the wrinkles it gives her, her complexion goes up in smoke, don't fear the reaper, it's time to carve a new Kachina with a flute in her mouth blowing out a healthy tune...
II.
the feathers soften her annoyance with having to undo trade bargains, her Cherokee ancestory threatened with plagiarized Big Chief tablets, stolen skeletons, looted heirlooms, imposter Native American bead necklaces restrung by impoverished Rez Indians to tag them "legally made," don't fear the reaper, protect the cross, it's time to dye porcupine quills and embroider them on a damn code of ethics and authenticity...
III.
the feathers soften her clan crests of mother of pearl and abalone buttons on her Tlingit Eagle Clan robe, the totem pole cut up for firewood at the instigation of missionaries, it's time to dig a seven-foot hole, fill the pit with boulders, rocks, and gravel to provide drainage and guard against society's rot, raise the Bear Totem, don't fear the reaper, let the elderly Haida noblewoman wear her nose ring and labret lip plug, let women of all Tribes wear genital piercing jewelry and feel the proud, stimulating tug of womanhood...labial potlatch....clitoral-intact Africa... vulva Walpurgis...protect the pentacle...
You can see from Eileen's comment that I'm not the only one who sees you as a teacher; but then, I'm sure you know that already. I love the tune as well. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and peace,
Regis

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
