Greater Truth

the horsehair we
untangle from burs
today is the horsehair
we braid our dreams with
tomorrow,

religious thorns
bleed the flesh from
festered dogma leaching
gangrenous upon putrid untruths
sworn to please god servants who
bend down to kiss the backside of the
chalice, the silver bridle they melted down,
those shallow who stand over the flame -

exchanging god's gift
of silversmithing for flawed
casts of tarnished clones,

does generic
faith leach out
impurities, or should
it? Should it remain flawed
in so that the Truth purveyors,
us, stand above as elite iconoclast
mentors, the Judas Priest and Johnny Cash
generation where heavy metal is not pounded
upon thy anvil and thy ring of fire does not burn
outside of its Greater Truth.

This challenges me as a priest, to bring the refining fire to what I teach. I too have learned that it is not the robes and incense, but the people who make something Holy

Sage, you've pealed the bells loudly. "Truth", blistered in the stones of ancient sea salt. You have provoked self-examination and ordered review of our values, our religions, our belief systems. "Greater Truth", we shall not soon know. Love and peace to you my dear friend. Jon Michael

Sage, well written and thought provoking. Truth is many things to many people--one man's truth is another's lie. And so it is with God, the Higher Power or whatever people choose to call the sensation in the soul that speaks of another essence within each of us--but different.

This, Sage, is a great poem that rings in the cloisters of mind.

Those with "festered dogmas" know nothing about "livin' after midnight," nor the sadness of the "train that keeps on rollin' on down to San Antoine." And yet, your question remains unanswered because truth has such a slippery tail. Effing good write Sage.

Peace and the Truth of horsehair,
Dayvid

The poem is fabulous as always Sage!
Light a match and turn up the lamp oil.
Ring Of Fire! my all time favorite song of his
and I think he ate hot peppers one night
as he partied hard..and the next morning
on his porcelain throne the inspiration expelled through him
for that song...

I have a salsa I can that I call Ring of Fire

as for religion they all have elements of truth(s)
weather we like it or not, and very sound advice
and some very horrendous sins too...and many faces
