there were gunshots in the shire
firefight
fleeting moments of silence
between the roar of violence
twilight
ending
darkness
overtaking the land of oz
gandalf the grey
oz the green
walked out into the wilderness
seeking out evidence
the "where" of commotion
shaking heads and going back
under hill
and inside walls
sign of the times
why do i care
was it me
was i shot
bastard sam
drunk again
maybe that crazy witch up the hill
(the flake with the flying monkeys)
it's all too much for me
there were gunshots in the shire
firefight
one night
as the old men sat
at the american legion
veterans of foriegn wars
not our battle - this one -
he isn't my kid
i didn't touch her
i didn't see a damn thing
buddha and santa claus
stood on the porch at bag and
holding bags of fresh air and apathy
rang the bell and ran
