A Hero and a Friend!

I went to a music concert with my friend, Lester Lemke. He is a WW II disabled veteran. Words cannot describe how good it felt to see the gleam in his eyes as the band played songs from an era full of swing music and patriotic tunes. The following poem expresses a little of what was felt that evening.

Poem Artwork

Our World War II GI’s.

They are slowly fading away.

They sacrificed like no one else.

We should honor them,

while we still can today.

I know a Disabled American Vet,
who is a very dear friend.

We went to a concert.

We listened to the old songs

that were popular,

way back then.

There were many smiles,

and there were many tears.

The old tunes brought memories

of the past and the good old years.

It was indeed an honor to stand beside

my hero and my friend.

They played  “America the Beautiful”

and we sang along until the very end.

“Thank you for your sacrifice.”

My hero and my friend.

“Thank you for giving your all.”

America salutes you!

Amen,

Amen

and

AMEN!

So beautiful to see his face and to know it was a pride he was showing. My husband served thirty years and retired a year ago with the Canadian Forces. These people represent why we have the life we live and yes Micheal they are not just people they are a HERO and GREAT FRIEND. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful tribute and shining example of how to honor and treat men who seem to have been eclipsed by younger generations of fellow soldiers.
