We had a Japanese homestay student in our home from August 2003 until July 2004. She was an absolute delight. We still write to her and she comes to visit from time to time. She graduated college in the US and is now back in Japan. She sent us a New Years greeting for 2009 and we are sending her a special card for her birthday along with this poem. I wrote this poem for Mio for her 24th birthday.

When Mio came into our lives, She was a bit quiet and shy. Mio made us feel SO special, It’s hard to explain why. Perhaps it is love that cannot be seen. Perhaps it is happiness that is a part of a dream. Whatever it is, we are so glad, That Mio came into our lives. She brought out the best in us as a Mom and a Dad. We opened our hearts to Mio and she made our lives so grand. We thank you God for our home-stay daughter - Mio! You are our bright and shiny Angel from another land. Amen

I know the feeling! Growing up we had a Japanese Exchange student come stay for a year, Atsuko, was her name! She kept in contact also...I'm sure Mio appreciates the time she spent with you and your wife just as much! She will treasure your poem...
