Two Tombstones

Mr and Mrs Max Banks

They were old when first we met.
I was young and in my prime.
I hadn't conquored the world yet
but I knew I would in time.

Busy as a bee.
Blind as a bat.
Max believed the golden rule
extended to his cat.

Two pet peeves had he
and with a busy pen,
By the words he wrote you could see,
He didn't count to ten.

Every day passion filled,
Letters he would write.
The animals are cruely killed.
Their's is an awful plight.

What about our vetern's
who fought and died for us.
blood spilled by the cistern
I lost my nieghbour Gus.

He would say "they won the war".
Now we must win the peace.
Freedom is the highest bar
The price is paid, there is no lease.

Their love for any animal
and for those who died in war.
AT 16 my understanding was minamal.
I worried more about my car.

For many years I thought no more
about the Bank's and their cause.
No letters,had he lost his roar?
Alas in the cementary I pause.


For there were tombstones nice and neat.
they lay there together their battle complete.
One stone said"I love you Babs"
The other said simply "I know".

With heavy heart I turned away
and glanced upward to the sky.
Don't worry Larry" I heard Max say,
"To make a difference just try.

I made a promise on my way home,
to myself and Max.
To find a cause, get on the phone,
Write a letter and send a fax.

You see Max knew all along.
We have to win the peace.
Get involved sing a song.
Freedom comes without a lease.
