A heartrending exposé of what faces parents of a mentally ill child. Why I am in favor of learning, early on, if there is a genetic defect in the fetus and freely giving that information clearly to the mother so that she can decide whether she would wish to have that child with the diagnosed fault as her offspring that she will have to nurture until reaching independence and adulthood. A challenging enough role during these rapidly changing times without having to be confronted with genetically caused mental illness, too.
Gene therapy will arrive much quicker if we allow this information to be gathered.
My oldest daughter suffered with bi-polar, and borderline personality disorder. Those years were a living hell for us. Thankfully, she is doing much better, but it took her to her mid 30's before things started to improve. Hope all goes well for you.
