eighty degrees today
supposed to get eighty
in celebration
grabbed the kids
went to watch the sun
dump itself in the ocean
glorious
standing on the edge of the world
foam lapping at my toes
hi I remember you, nice you could visit
kinship soothing my soul
waves reaching up to splash
the fiery ball that warms us all
couldn’t reach it
couldn’t even come close
but not for want
of trying
walking along next to lovers
arms entwined nuzzling softly
I
wanted to say
don’t let this heat fool you
winter is coming
winter is coming
and then I thought
don’t
let the chill you feel
thaw
the love in the air
the love flying as high as the sinking sun
palpable
as sure as the salt air
as sure as the killdeer
as sure as my kids splashing
claiming the sea their own
as sure as
the great ball of fire
sinking
in the eighty degree
atmosphere of my life
couldn’t reach it
couldn’t even come close
but not for want
of
trying

Josefina,
My thanks, poetess of fair hand, for showing me, my long lost love of ocean, where I first raised my head. Yes, a journey of splendor, and a rather fine one I'd say!

Graciously wrought, Josie, as sure as the way your mind works, as sure as people care, this warmed me...I will not stop trying, either.
