was just sitting on my back deck
listening
there are your regular noises
birds, wind pushing around leaves
neighbors doing neighborly things
mowing, laughing,
there was even a frightening moment
when
a bumblebee zipped about me
hate
those things
but
what I noticed the most
in all the quiet
was
a barely audible
hum
almost like an electric vibration
of
some sort or other
and I did as I always do
when there is a noise
such as this
I
set out to find it’s source
I am
self appointed “find the reason for the noise”
person in this house
any scratches or creaks
well it’s my Job
to figure out what it is
Hum
what could that be
I shook my head thinking perhaps
the noise was really
inside
all along
plugged my ears
gone
unplug
there
hmmmm what is that
up I get
playing the hot game, is it louder here
less loud here
no
the Hum is most definitely consistent
in the entire perimeter of
the back yard
and then it dawns
I know this sound
this is the sound of
Urgency
the Hum of something
Big
is
coming
hurry
there isn’t much time
HUM HUM HUM
the world is telling me that
fear
is abroad
and it is real
and it is
HUMMING
in
my
back yard
having thus arrived at this conclusion
for
there could be
no
other
I retrieve
my ragged copy of “Basic Writings of Kant”
which
I Can’t understand
but
whom I enjoy so much for the placement of word to paper
