despite the dumb athlete stereotype and the occasional story about the star that doesn't go to classes...
kids who play sports in general score higher on their SAT's than those who don't.
sports also help you learn teamwork, discipline, and how to win and loose gracefully - things you don't learn from books.
There are abuses for sure, but I am glad I played sports and will encourage my kids if they want to also.
good write, but i am not a fan of athletic sports in schools. too much emphasis on the game and not on education. and then people wonder why american kids can't read or measure up to the rest of the world. i blame sports. sorry, but this is how i happen to feel! love, your friend in texas, karen lynn.
