The Most Beautiful Things Are Often The Most Useless

How disappointing--

from the height

of her cheekbones

from her full

and refined mouth

words

vapidly fall

in a sputtering cadence

as futile

as the florid

fan of a Peacock's

tail

or the motal

flush of color

that tints the

autumnal leaves--

or the burning, ice-blue

eyes of your diva

as she swoons

under the undertow

of her swan song.

Or that ethereal hush

and then the brush

 of her sudden

warm, inviting breath--

Still--

what else

can stand

between you

and death.

Really good, but I thought that it could have been about my first wife, who I divorced over thirty years ago.
