Reminded me, the lovely mulatto lady I saw, one time, while dining in Chattanooga, TN.

You wrapped me up in
The colour of love..."
Creamy linen-skinned, in a certain light,
doesn’t mean self-perceived, and seen as white,
by whites; and blacks count caramel a slight.
A mixed-race woman—is something not quite right?
You’d wonder, too—what sort of exotic?
And she can’t help but see everyone stares,
into one’s own notion of erotic,
for her to disown, or hate that she cares.
And here am I, compelled to do the same—
by the tilt of her eyes, long heavy hair,
bod’ to the bone showing no trace of blame—
the insult to her dignity, I dare.
Well she’s right to mind—why would I do it?

I can understand the fascination & it certainly comes across in the poem, which imo is both progressive literature as well as exquisite poetry Saludos

"A mixed-race woman—is something not quite right?" It takes a lot to make me laugh aloud when I read, but this line did it. Super!! Beauty is skin deep? So is spirit. It is not about skin; it's about the whole person. Spot on, poet!
There is more to the soul than the outer color of skin...your poem brings forth the underlying reality of society...fortunately the mystery of exotic imagination tends to overcome some of the questions and misunderstandings...
What seems to be brished aside most by "society" is the simple fact that we are all a part of the human race, designed by God. Think it would be a very sad world if we were all cones of each other, don't you think?? Gone would be the individuality, the uniqueness of being who you are. Well expressed piece...

The concept of interracial relationships being somthing to hide or ban is no longer an accepted one...we can now love any colour, race or creed we chose and the children of those matings are still just beautiful children one and all...
Kimberly has gone from a well-paid female executive one minute to a desperate woman the next. Thinking her day can't possibly get any worse, she finds out how wrong she is when she goes home. The only way to set things straight is to get even.
