Replacing unreasoned ecstasy and agony with a well-reasoned center...

Poem Artwork

Between

In land of life,
there lies a place between.

A place where peace can be found,
if we only choose to wean.

Ourselves from our crutches,
our little selfish ploys in life.

That keep us at the clutches,
of what we fear is strife.

We conjure up the enemy,
in what we do not know.

Wall off our mental territory,
until we cannot grow.

We find such great joy,
in superficial things.

And great anguish with,
what life just normally brings.

For those that throw off the crutches,
and walk out on their own.

May find a happy medium,
that understanding home.

So if you have all the answers,
yet fear the day you die.

Please examine your foibles,
and ask of their purpose, "Why?"

A striking balance in form as well as philosophy. Here's to all of us finding that "happy medium" in the not too distant future.

Ronald, i want to wish you a very merry Christmas. I know you aren't fond of my style of poetry and I'm not exactly a fan of rhyme but I have developed a healthy respect for you work and realized how beautiful rhyme and flow can be together. thank you and have a great holiday

It isn't easy being happy. Sometimes it feels like life conspires to make things as hard as possible, never really relenquishing happiness over to us, for fear we might like being here too much I guess. Seriously though, can you imagine anything better than living?

I work with people who have chronic mental and emotional problems. This poem could be my job description....facilitating the letting go of crutches. Thanks, I enjoyed this. JM

Insightful and philosophical Ron.

"So if you have all the answers,
yet fear the day you die.

Please examine your foibles,
and ask of their purpose, "Why?"

This says so much about the controlling tentacles of pride. Yes ... we always need to look at ourselves in an objective mirror to see how we're seen, and also to keep our eyes clear so we can stay on the path that we are supposed to tread. This is a great write.

And the image ... it's you in triplicate.

Light and Wisdom ...
