A Song

I'm almost home, no matter how far I roam, I'm almost home… with you. It's a long road I've traveled down, and its end is near in sight. I've soldiered on many a shore, and never gave up the fight. But freedom is a lonely cause. And I never got it right. So many times I took that road, but, never saw the light. (Refrain) You were always on my mind, when through my fears I wasted. Years went by and I don't know why, those bitter tears I tasted. Watched them die and don't know why, it wasn't me they wanted. Hellfire deep and on the heap, all humanity's fears I taunted. (Refrain) The end is almost near now, I see it coming around the bend. of war and all I fear, It's coming to an end. I'll see you in my dreams tonight, I'll see you to the end. I'll see you through the flashbacks, I'll see you again. I don't know when, but I'll see you again. I'll see you again... and again... and again... I’m almost home. Copyright 2009 © Ronald W. Ron, I know you as a man of diverse abilities -- but song writer and lyricist I had not wholly considered -- if you compose music too, go to it and publish this wonderful song -- it has much potential -- it reminds me of something Kris Kristofferson would write --peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

Would've made a great July 4th post--definitely country/rock, all Mary Chapin Carpenter but with a man's voice (and she had a 90's tune called "Almost Home" I often sang Karaoke. Not about war though--this would strike "home" with a lot of young men today...
