"We be rowing..." (Rowen and Martin)

Poem Artwork

Rowing river is where I be,
twixt the mountain, and the sea.
Rowing, not paddling, is for me,
up this river of time.
Up this river of rhyme.

I've been rowing,
all my life.
rowing ain't easy,
but she's my wife.

Married to her,
I should not be.
But like my right arm,
my right hand's for free.

Up this river of time.
Up this river of rhyme.

Into her waters,
I dig deep.
Her flow is smooth,
and it is steep.

Two strokes up,
swept three strokes back.
It's not for trying,
that I lack.

Up this river of time.
Up this river of rhyme.

Will I make that mountaintop?
Only time will tell.
Will these rapids ever stop?
Before the final curtain fall?

Rowing river is where I be,
till time decides to erase me.
Like a pod of a pea.
Floating down to the sea.

Down this river of time,
leaving this river of rhyme.

Was that you I saw on the river? I be rowing too Ron. You are so masterful with rhyme and flow. A seemingly simple message with a profound meaning.

Time is a river and try as we might the upstream effort has its price. It also has its rewards. Go with the flow is a common mantra, it too has its price and rewards. Only an anchor can prevent the journey. It has a price too, but little reward. Patrick

Such a sweet ride through the "river of time"
This makes me want to pick up an ore
And head for another shore.

Ron, the flow of this rendering is marvelous, free. The rhyme is purposeful not imposed. The message is mellow and yet binding to us each and every one my friend. Now row, time is what we must not waste. Rhyme will have to take its chances as the river of time advances. May you be overwhelmed with joy peace and love. Jon Michael

Thats quite a story to this poem. The only rowing I ever did was in Central Park in NYC. It was nothing like you described. This piece was good a little different for you perhaps. But very good, and a top notch rhyme too.

GOD BLESS YOU
TONY
