Hierarchy

I would guess that the term was first used to
describe the “higher archy” or order of angels,
but it also describes well the survival strategy
of nature where a structure of individuals under
strict control insures survival. Humans have
perfected the structure beyond mere survival to
a point of blatant abuse.

Big guys and little guys by me

Hierarchy

Like the honeycomb of the bee,
we build our matrix strong.
And rush to protect our queen,
in the threat of something wrong.

Like ants on a instinctual mission,
we scatter and scurry about.
In mindless efficient inefficiency,
wasting half our lives in doubt.

Like the web of the spinning spider,
we wired the entire realm.
A better trap for to find her,
for those who man the helm.

Like the pride of the lion queen,
she controls behind the scene,
chooses strong and brutal mates,
still more stupid than they seem.

Like the fly on the wall,
our drones can see everything.
And like the mosquito in the night,
strike at will with savage sting.

There is safety in our numbers,
so like lemmings we procreate.
Our crowding makes us angry,
and closer to our Heaven's Gate

There is no sin in Eden,
we had to make it up.
By controlling all the sinners,
we fill our coffers' cup.

Parasites on the planet,
our superiority is endowed.
Squash all the inferior beings,
for we are the only ones allowed.

But when the hierarchy crumbles,
and superiority no longer rules.
Which ride will you be on,
your own, or the ship of fools?

Certainly substance to reflect upon, Ron. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

WoW - lol...

Poetic splendor ...4th stanza is my favorite...

P. S. - i suspect some of us can't chose our ships (dispite popular fokelore of this being a democracy)....

Not really much safety in numbers, just a larger body count. Like most of the rest of us I'll just go down with the ship.

A very powerful poem. We humans seem to have been born with a sense of connectivity, ever seeking the structure within which we fit the best. The downside is, there are only so many to choose from and most of those are inherently flawed. M.True

So many angles powerfully covered in this piece, Ron, yet each could be elaborated upon in detail. However, for some reason this verse really captures my attention:

There is safety in our numbers,
so like lemmings we procreate.
Our crowding makes us angry,
and closer to our Heaven's Gate

We want to have our cake and eat it; both play God and blame Him for our own gross stupidities. We've already chosen a different Captain of our Fate it seems to me: the one headed for Down Under.

... And now Jude really IS being tongue-in-cheek, I think! :) xx

Very interesting...that second last stanza is one I firmly believe in. Really enjoyed this one, Ronald...read it over a few times...you nailed it! Well done...

Ever the social beings we tend to build hierarchys whether they are needed or not. Find an earthly paradise and we're sure to mess it up when we start figuring out governance, or that ever dependable standby, tyranny, which is much more easier than the strain of governance. Or even a republic, which we are in danger of loosing. We can be called a ship of fools rightly enough Ron. Bob

I loved it. I've always been independent and radical and those who belong to their protective groups find me different, but I've learned that they can't seem to exist with their hierarchy-type groups.

This is very good Ron!
It is like the word insanity, doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results...
You said it in a nut shell...fools!

Very good write!

Unlike our non-human earthly neighbors, we have built a Ship of Fools,
And I sadly believe that one day our 'superiority' will no longer rule.

I became spell bound while reading the outstanding work.
Each stanza gives a vibrant story and a unique phenomenon.
There is a priceless lesson in each of them.
The last stanza embodies a great philosophical and mind blowing expression.
Congratulate you for the wonderful contribution!!!

You have set up a perfect example of amphiboly. Now watch as many of your readers fall victim to it by committing its rapacious fallacy by falsely inferring who steers and the ship of fools. Brilliant, Ron. One of your best.

The ship of fools. Perfect wording for the present "in power" here in America. I was surprised you would call them that. A miracle.
