Calliope Go Round

It seems that the majority are caught up in the circumstances of their birth and they never really change, even if they become highly educated. For the few that break out from the ties of tradition, comes all the new change and innovation that drives civilization forward.

Calliope Go Round

Refrain

The calliope pipes play,

and the merry world goes 'round,

mesmerized by the magical sound.

We choose our horses,

or they choose us.

We mount and ride them,

without any fuss.

For we are innocent,

and know not our fate,

until the elders teach us,

by then, it’s too late.

(Refrain)

As conflicts arise,

in our fresh minds,

we seek our peers' opinions,

while authority declines.

Charged with knowledge,

of the emerging new order,

we challenge the elders,

and cross over the border.

(Refrain)

Full of passion and drive,

we ride our ponies of old,

taking on new pathways,

reaching for that ring of gold.

But the best laid plans,

of all mentors and men,

the world comes full circle,

and we often fail again.

(Refrain)

As time goes on,

we fall off that horse,

no longer will we take,

that uphill course.

We resort to old adages,

nostalgia and ways.

The hardening of our ideas,

to the end of our days.

(Refrain)

Ron,

Such an enjoyable read and full of wisdom.
It is funny as we get wise, the young want to gain their own wisdom so going around the circle continues.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND THE WORLD AND SO HAS THE WORLD, TERRIBLY. GREED...RULES! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GOLD RING AND SEEMS NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. DON'T BLAME OUR ELDERS...THE NEVER KNEW IT WOULD GET THIS BAD, THEY BELIEVED IN OUR AMERICAN VALUES AND THOUGHT THEY WOULD STAND FOREVER. WE ARE ON THIS MERRY GO-ROUND AND LIKE THE WORLD...WE CAN'T STOP IT AND GET OFF.
THANKS FOR THE SHARE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Wonderful words of wisdom! Your words make me wish I could start over but know what I know now. How different it would be! Maybe the next time around, eh, Ron?

Love ya!

It is not easy writing a poem such as this one. I praise you for this poetic song. It's a work of art that's from your heart. Ha! We don't write these gems every day. Very well done Ron.

Cheers,

John Mike

Never been on a real horse so I could not off fall,
Instead I've ridden many times the carousel at the mall,
But if I did actually that way fall,
I would dust myself off & for my Jeep call...-e-

"The calliope pipes play,

Yep, we are definitely astride the painted horses, et all, as we ride the merry-go-round of life. Love this poem, Ron.

We go through so many transitional phases as we grow up, but then we get to an age where we feel comfortable in our little molded self. Sigh, I'm always game for new insight, or so I think, ? til' it threatens to jeopardise my old ways, lol, Nice poem that makes one think. Have a wonderful day Ron.

It feels refreshing, but the poem is complex to me. Maybe when I'm older I'll understand better.
